About The Project
Spoiler Alert is a project created to pay homage to glitch art.
As beautifully summed up by Rosa Menkman, glitch art "emphasizes what is normally rejected as a flaw and subsequently shows that accidents and errors can also be welcomed as new forms of usability".
Spoiler Alert is a display of glitches personified as unreliable narrators in films. Glitches convey the idea of momentum, change and lack of control. They represent chaos and unpredictability. They leave you in awe and make you question what you are presented with. Similarly, with unreliable narrators, they change the way we view a story, especially in the moment the truth about them or the situation is revealed. The audience has no control over their own perceptions because the narrator can drop a truth bomb, leaving you in awe.
Each of these characters' image is glitched to fit the narrative of these characters(e.g: RGB shift for multiple personalities, looping to represent relapse and repetition, etc). with the text overlay in each gif leaving clues as to why these characters are unreliable.
Now that you have observed glitch personified as five different unreliable narrators, I hope that you see how glitch can be an important tool in story telling.
It's not always just a mistake.
